NCLB a Four Letter Word

NCLB...No Child Left Behind....four words that make teachers cringe. See a funny video produced by the American Federation of Teachers, here.

In other teacher's union news. Here in LA, this news was posted on the local union site:
SCHOOL BOARD RATIFIES
TENTATIVE AGREEMENT
At its Jan. 31 meeting, the School Board voted 5 to 0 to accept the UTLA/LAUSD tentative agreement. It is now part of the contract.

SALARY INCREASE
The 2.5% pay increase will appear in March 3 pay warrants. The retroactive check will be issued March 10.

Tam, what will you do w/your 2.5% increase?

No doubt party like it's 1999. But yeah, NCLB is & was a disaster. It was planned as such to prove that the public schools were 'failing' and make certain that the private schools started getting more of our tax dollars. But the Private schools have even less accountability, and almost no reporting of anything. Just amazing to consider. Cheers & Good Luck, 'VJ'

VJ, who are you? How did you come about finding my blog?

Marty, my 2.5% comes out to MAYBE a few hundred dollars for 6 months. I'm a new teacher, so that percentage is small. I suppose IF I get a check (not sure how retro works since I wasn't a union member-I am now) I will put it in savings to add to my travel money, or I'll make a big payment on my credit card, so there's more room to charge up on vacation :)
